Technical Description
The Carter BB family dates all the way back to the 1930s as a rugged, no-nonsense fuel mixer. While most famously known as a single-barrel on early Chrysler flathead sixes, Carter produced a heavy-duty two-barrel version of the BB featuring:
-
Cast-Iron Construction: Unusually heavy and highly resistant to warping caused by manifold heat.
-
Low Profile & Large Flange: Engineered to fit under tightly packed hoods while flowing enough air for larger displacements.
-
Mechanical Simplicity: Highly reliable industrial-grade internals, making it a favorite for vehicles that could not afford downtime.
What It Fits
The Carter BB two-barrel was the heavy-duty workhorse for the Chrysler Corporation (Mopar) and various industrial manufacturers from the late 1940s through the 1960s:
-
Dodge Power Wagons & Heavy Trucks: Widely used on Dodge "Job-Rated" commercial trucks, school buses, and military power wagons equipped with large flathead inline-6 or early polyspherical (Poly) V8 engines.
-
Desoto & Chrysler Passenger Cars: Installed on older V8 and high-displacement inline-6 models requiring a dual-barrel intake.
-
Industrial and Marine Engines: Found on heavy stationary industrial pumps, forklifts, agricultural combines, and marine flathead six conversions (Chrysler Crown/Royal marine engines).
