Zenith 28-228 Carburetor Repair Kit K4042

The kit has two issues: 1)The gasket between the carb body and the throttle body is not thick enough to accommodate the small brass tube in the idle circuit. 2)The kit should contain a replacement vacuum piston assembly as the GMC maintenance manual depicts. A rebuild requires replacing this assembly.

The Carb Kit contained everything needed to overhaul the carburetor except the gasket between the bowl and throttle body. The replacement gasket was thinner than the original and would not allow the two pieces to seat properly. I was able to re-use the old gasket there and the old GMC is running great! It's nice to have a place to purchase parts for these old trucks. I will order from you again! Thank You!

Great kit. Everything to rebuild the carburetor. The only problem that I found was the gasket for the throttle bore wasn't thick enough for the brass nipple. Customer service was great they answered all my questions.

This kit has all the gaskets you could need to clean the 28/228 for any application. It doesn't have any jets, nor does it have the cleanout filter. More than half the parts went back into the bag, while I will continue to look for jets and filter. If someone has figured out how to use the float setting tool (card stock right angle scale) please let me know. All of the scales started at at the wrong edge for my spatial relation challenged brain.

As stated in other reviews, the bowl gasket is half as thick as the original causing the jet that sticks out of the bottom gasket surface to interfere with the top surface. I fixed this by sanding the jet shorter until the gasket could compress properly and then cleaning out all of the shavings. The other small issue is that the description said the accelerator pump would be leather “like original” but is actually the more modern synthetic rubber cup type, and the original is a solid pot metal. This is really a benefit in a way, but on first assembly after cleaning the bore like instructed the piston was too tight to return with the spring. After further cleaning with a scotch-brite and lubing the piston with gas instead of oil it wasn’t as tight. Still waiting on other parts to test run the engine but if all else goes well I’m at 4 stars. The redeeming factor is this company sends excellent service information and instructions, Especially for a carburetor this old. Knowledge is power as they say. I have bought kits from this company since with no issues.

The rebuild kit was great, after rebuild, truck started with minimal adjustments.
