OLD

Got the two kits for some 17080560 carbs. Lots of pieces but unfortunately one of the floats had the arm incorrectly soldered, off-center. Float would hit the side of the bowl. Carbs were time sensitive so I had to take the hit and just got some nitrophyl ones locally.

Mercruiser carb rebuild

Parts looked good upon arrival. Putting the marine carb together was made easier with Mike’s video. Have not had a chance to complete the engine rebuild yet but will in the next few weeks. I’m sure that any problems I have will not be carb related.

The quality of these items appear to be very good. I rated only 4 of 5 stars as I measured the float level exactly as the instructions/videos suggest and it flooded the carb horribly. I took everything apart again and made sure everything was clean and properly installed. Flooded. I removed and took apart the carb again and bent the float down past the recommended level. Flooded again. Fourth time is a charm? I used the old needle seat and the old float and viola! I'll take it apart again and bend the new float substantially more when I get more time. Might just be a bad needle seat.

This float kit is real nice. it's good to see the metal floats return. Reminds me of the old days when Carburetors were less than $50.00 new.
