Why My Nissan Only Starts With Starting Fluid
- Always start by looking at the ignition. Are the batter terminals clean and is the battery charged up and holding a charge under a draw. Now if the engine starts after spraying starter fluid then chances are the ignition is OK.
- Cycle the On/Off switch 10 or more times. This will reset the fuel system and allow the computer to sync.
- Is the engine light on? If so, then the 1st thing is to get an ODB II testing plugged in to see what the trouble code is.
- Is there gas in the gas tank?
- Turn the key to the on position and listed to see if the fuel pump makes any noise. Most Nissan fuel pumps are located in the gas tank, so pay careful attention to that area. No sound? check the hot wire going into the gas tank for 12v.
- Test the fuel pump pressure. Low pressure means you are not getting enough fuel to the injectors.
- Change the fuel filter.
- Look for any broken, or loose vacuum hoses.
- If the vehicle has been sitting for a long time, then the gas has turned and coated the fuel system. You may have to replace the injector regulator and fuel injectors.
