Zenith 28 228 carbs all have a round dime sized disc rivited to the carb bowl. This tag isn't really removable, if it's gone you'll have a hole through the top of your carburetor.
Some carbs have the number stamped directly into the body on the rounded edge just under the air cleaner.
The tag will have two numbers, the one you want is the inner number and it will be 4-5 digits with a letter at the end. For rebuild kit purposes, the letter doesn't matter.
