Dashpots are used on vehicles with an automatic transmission. When the throttle closes quickly, the dashpot will hold the throttle open momentarily so that any unburned gas will be burned.

Does not work on Holley 1901 carbs.

What Does the Dashpot Do?

The return of the throttle lever is cushioned just before the throttle fully closes, then is allowed to fully close slowly to reduce emissions.
