FLOODING OR OVERFLOWING
Flooding in any carburetor is typically caused by a handful of conditions:
- High fuel pump pressure. Single barrel carburetors typically need 3-4psi. If your carburetor is flooding and your pressure is above 4, add an in-line pressure regulator
- Debris stuck in the needle and seat preventing it from sealing properly. This is most often caused by a dirty fuel system.
- Damaged viton tip on the inlet needle. This can happen from applying pressure to the needle when adjusting the float.
- Leaking or heavy float. Brass floats can be tested by submerging in hot water and looking for bubbles. Nitrophyl floats can only be tested by weight and should be changed during a rebuild.
