Before removing any part of a Toyota fuel system you must relieve the fuel pressure to prevent any injury.

- Remove the gas cap to relieve any pressure in the gas tank. Inspect the gas cap for any damage. The cap must seal the gas tank in order for the engine to operate correctly.
- 1997 and earlier - Remove the radio and cup order to gain access to the circuit relay. Unplug the electrical connector from the relay.
- 1998 and later, the circuit relay is located on the left side of the instrument panel above the kick panel. Remove the relay from the panel.
- Start the engine. Let is stall, then crank the engine 3 or 4 seconds. Turn the key off.
- The system is now depressurized.
- Disconnect the battery ground before working on any component. Be sure you have the code to energize the stereo.
2003-2008 Toyota Corolla 1.8L 4 cyl.- Relieving Fuel Pressure
- Remove the gas cap to relieve any pressure in the gas tank.
- Remove rear seat which gets you access to the fuel pump.
- Unscrew or pry the cover off depending on which type you have.
- Remove the electric connection at the fuel pump
- Run the engine until it stalls.
- Crank the engine for 4 seconds.
- The fuel pressure in your Toyota is now relieved.
- Remove the negative cable from your battery before servicing any component.
Toyota Rav4 - Relieve fuel pressure
- Remove gas cap to relieve any pressure in the gas tank.
- Remove the center console.
- Locate the fuel pump sending unit electrical connector and unplug it.

- Start the vehicle and let the engine run until it dies.
- Crank the engine for 4 seconds.
- That should have relieved all of the fuel pressure. It is safe to now remove injector components.
