Rochester Quadrajet, 4 barrel carburetor primary metering rods. Quadrajet 4MV only. 1974 and earlier.

The primary metering rod is tapered, getting smaller towards the end. While hard to see, the old rod should have a number stamped on the rod. The number will correspond to the last 2 numbers in our number nomenclature, i.e. 130-39, might have a stamping of 39B. The 39 indicates the larger diameter of the rod is .039".

The small diameter end is the power end. When you are at idle, or low power, vacuum is at the highest and the bigger diameter is in the main metering jet. As you power up, the vacuum drops, raising the rod so that the smaller end is in the jet, allowing more fuel to pass.

Be careful when ordering

merchandise arrived as ordered but it's not really all that clear that the rods and jets are not sold in pairs. It is there in very small print at the bottom but I missed it. If you order one, you get one rod shipped to you which is half of what you need. Now I start over with another order and another week of lost time getting the parts.

The metering rods I removed from my old quadrajet had 38 stamped on them. The ones I ordered from you were .039s, but, what the heck, I figured within .001 was close enough. They appear to be high quality and they install and work just fine. Your response and timeliness was perfect.
