CHOKE ADJUSTMENT

Hard starting condition?
Make sure your choke is working properly. With the engine cold open the throttle to allow the choke to close. Choke valve should close almost completely. Warm the engine up. As the engine gets warmer the choke valve should open, eventually to a full open position.

Adjust by bending the choke rod at (a).

How To Adjust a Weber Marine Choke Integral (mounted on the carb) Type?

Here’s a clear step-by-step guide for adjusting the integral choke on a Weber marine carburetor. This applies to most Weber marine units with the round, integral electric or hot-air choke housing mounted on the carb body.

1. Safety First

  • Make sure the engine is off and cool before beginning.

  • Disconnect the battery if you’ll be working near electrical connections.

2. Identify the Choke Housing

  • The integral choke is a round black or metal housing mounted to the carburetor body.

  • It’s held on by three retaining screws that allow for rotation/adjustment.

  • A coil spring inside the housing moves the choke plate as it heats up.

3. Mark the Factory Position

  • Before making changes, use a marker or scribe to note the current alignment of the choke housing to the carb body.

  • This gives you a reference point to return to if needed.

4. Adjustment Procedure

  1. Loosen the three screws just enough that the choke housing can rotate, but do not remove them.

  2. Rotate the housing:

    • Clockwise (tighten spring): Makes the choke plate close more — richer setting, longer warm-up.

    • Counterclockwise (loosen spring): Makes the choke plate open sooner — leaner setting, shorter warm-up.

  3. Set the choke so that, when cold:

    • The choke plate just closes fully when you open and release the throttle slightly.

    • It should not bind or force itself hard shut.

5. Warm-Up Check

  • Start the engine cold.

  • The choke plate should begin to open within 30–60 seconds as the element heats.

  • After a few minutes, the choke should be fully open.

  • If the engine stumbles rich when warming up ? rotate housing counterclockwise.

  • If the engine stalls lean or won’t start cold ? rotate housing clockwise.

7. Fine Tuning

  • It may take 1–2 small adjustments to get the balance right for your specific marine engine and climate.

  • Always make adjustments in small increments (about 1/16” to 1/8” of a turn on the housing).

Summary:
To adjust the Weber marine integral choke: loosen the housing screws, rotate the choke housing slightly to change spring tension, verify cold closure and proper warm-up opening, then fine-tune for smooth cold starting without flooding or stalling.
