Carter Thermoquad SecondaryOpen throttle valves to the wide open position.
  • The primary & secondary throttle shafts stops, should contact the casting at the same time.
  • To adjust, bend the link as illustrated.

SECONDARY AIR VALVE ALIGNMENT
  • Remove air cleaner assembly
  • Observe carburetor from directly above with engine OFF
  • With air valve in closed position, gap between air valve and air horn wall must be at its maximum and parallel with air horn gasket surface.
SECONDARY AIR VALVE OPENING ADJUSTMENT
  • Hold secondary air valve in wide open position
  • Measure gap between raised edge (short side) of air valve and air horn wall
  • Gap should be 1/2"
  • If adjustment is needed, bend short side of air valve with pliers until proper gap is obtained
  • NOTE: corner of air valve is notched to aid in adjustment
SECONDARY AIR VALVE SPRING TENSION ADJUSTMENT
  • Remove air cleaner
  • NOTE: when performing this adjustment, hold air valve adjustment plug with screwdriver when loosening lock plug. If not, spring may snap out of position. This would require taking the carburetor apart to get the spring out
  • Loose air valve lock plug
  • Turn air valve adjustment plug clockwise. This will allow air valve to move to wide open throttle
  • Insert long slender screwdriver through center of special tool (not manufactured aftermarket, you'll have to find something else that will work)
  • Wth special tool positioned on air valve adjustment plug, turn plug counter-clockwise until air valve lightly touches its stop
  • Press air valve against stop with light finter pressure to check position
  • Turn plug 1 1/2 additional turns counter-clockwise
  • Hold adjustment plug with screwdriver, tighten lock plug securely
  • Check air valve for freedom of movement
