The AFB (Aluminum Four Barrel) carburetor was produced by Carter for original equipment cars from 1957-1971.
The AFB was then available as a high performance 9000 series carburetor up until the late 1990's.
Weber is currently making the AFB, now known as the Edelbrock. Many of the Edelbrock and AFB parts cross over including the 2-step metering rods and jets.
The early AFBs were not rated with CFM statistics, but the later performance 9000's were. The numbers in the 9000 series ID tags indicate the CRM. 9650S would be a 650CFM for instance.

All Carter AFB carburetors were stamped on the face of one flange foot.

Look for 4 numbers followed by a S. Example 3445S. You may find other numbers stamped on the carburetor, but they are usually the part numbers of the part they are stamped on. An example would be 0-1654S. All AFB carbs were stamped when manufactured, if you don't have a number on your carburetor, someone has ground it off an it's likely a remanufactured carburetor.

We have carburetor kits for most Carter AFB Carburetors including the 4000 compitition series and the 9000 compitition series. The easiest way to locate the correct kit is by putting your carburetor number (ie 9650s) in the search box at the top of our website. You can see the full kit catalog here:

No carb number?
If you are missing the carburetor number, the parts can be compared to help narrow down the kit. The accelerator pump cup diameter and overall length will need to be compared as well as the bowl and flange gaskets to determine the correct kit. We do our very best to help match a kit in these cases, but we can't guarantee a kit when purchased without a carburetor number as we have no idea if the correct parts were previously used.

We also offer a huge selection of AFB parts including many hard to find aftermarket parts. You'll find springs, gaskets, metering rods, jets, brass replacement floats, premium rebuild kits, and many other hard to find parts. Metering rod pistons, metering rod covers, and dashpots are custom manufactured and offered exclusively by Mike's.
