FLOAT ADJUSTMENT (BXV-3 & BXVD-3)

Install the floats with the fulcrum and pin retainer in the main body, then install the needle seat and gasket in the body and tighten securely. Invert the main body so that the free weight of the floats alone is resting against seated needle. The distance from the top of the main body without gasket to the top center of each float should be as specified below. Use a metal ruler to check the float level. Adjust by bending the float hanger arm. When adjusting the float do not apply pressure against the needle. The tip can easily be damaged and you will get a false reading.

Float level measurement: 1/8? below casting w/o gasket.

IDLE MIXTURE ADJUSTMENT
Turn screw in until gently seated, then turn back out 1 turn. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN you will damage the idle mixture screw and possible the carb bore.
Turn the screw in for a richer mixture, out for a leaner mixture.
Once the carburetor is on the engine, bring to operating temperature, adjust the idle to specs, then adjust the needle for the smoothest idle.

FAST IDLE CAM

HOT AIR TYPE

Stromgberg BXOV & BXVD Fast Idle

NOTE: Before proceeding with the fast idle cam setting, adjust the throttle stop screw so the screw just contacts the low step of the cam when throttle valve is fully closed.
To set the fast idle cam, apply light closing pressure against the choke vavle when throttle stop screw is resting on step of cam as shown. Insert gauge and then bend the rod as required. Check the specification sheet at the top of this page for dimensions.

ELECTRIC TYPE
Carter BXOV BXVD Fast Idle
NOTE: Before proceeding with the fast idle cam setting, adjust throttle stop screw so screw just contacts low step of the cam when throttle valve is fully closed.
To set the fast idle cam, apply light closing pressure against the choke valve when throttle stop screw is resting on step of cam as shown.
Insert gauge "A" between choke valve and wall of air horn. If clearance is not as specified, bend the rod accordingly.

WIDE OPEN KICK ADJUSTMENT

STEP TYPE FAST IDLE CAM
Stromberg Wide Open Kick Adjustment
NOTE: Fast idle cam setting must be made before making the wide open kick setting.
With the throttle valve held in wide open position, instert gauge "C" between choke valve and wall of air horn. If clearance is not as specified, bed ear on throttle lever as required.

NON-STEP FAST IDLE CAM
NOTE: On carburetors with hot air type choke control and non-step fast idle cam, the wide open kick setting automatically sets the fast idle.
With throttle valve in wide open position and cam pin in contact with cam, apply light closing pressure against the choke valve. Choke valve should be open just enough to insert gauge "C" between choke valve and wall of air horn. If clearance is not as specified, bend fast idle rod as required.
