1972 Thunderbird

Carburetor kept flooding after I replaced the fuel pump, and even after I rebuilt the carb. After doing some research and eliminating other possible culprits, I decided to order this. This plug fixed the problem perfectly, no more flooding!

This is the best fix for the flooding problems that exist with the 4300 4 bbl carb. Only one fuel inlet is needed and the car runs fine with the secondary plugged off using this part. No more flooding issues that were so common from day one with this carb.

Not sure if this is a proper modification without making multiple adjustments away from original spec carb settings . I used this plug on a D3AF-LA 4300 rebuild. After installation, fuel gushed out of bowl vents on top of air horn during acceleration. Air/fuel mixture screw adjustments & changing the accelerator pump lever pivot pin position need to be made for proper tuning. Engine will not run by simply replacing the secondary assembly with the plug. From Mike's: This isn't a problem we've experienced before, we followed up with the customer and this is what he said "I believe the problem was the float having a bind. After a few WOT exercises and multiple fire extinguishers at the ready, the fuel circuit corrected itself. Running like a champ this morning."

Secondary plug review

As soon as I installed this plug and made the necessary adjustments, I noticed no more fuel weeping out of the carburettor either on start up and shut down. It made no difference to the running of my car. The part is machined well and fitted straight in perfectly. Definitely an improvement.
