A fuel injector repair kit is a set of parts used to repair fuel injectors in a vehicle's engine. It typically includes seals, gaskets, and filters needed to repair faulty injectors. O-rings can get brittle from the heat and becomes a good source of a gas leak. The filter screens can get plugged causing a bad injector spray, or none at all.
Filters keep dirt out of the fuel injector which has very small holes for spraying fuel.
Once you have the fuel injector out of the engine and cleaned, you should replace the o-rings and any filters.
Take pictures of your injector and how the parts fit. This will save your bacon later when you have questions.
Remove the small parts from your injector, keeping them in order on the work bench so when replacing the small parts you know which order they go in. It would be easy to mix up where the o-rings go.
There will be 1 or 2 o-rings, maybe a spacer, maybe a pintle and most injectors include a filter.
Removing the Old Fuel Injectors
The first step in installing fuel injector kits is to remove the old fuel injectors. This is a critical step, as any mistakes made during this process can result in damage to the engine or the new fuel injectors. To remove the old fuel injectors, follow these steps:
- Let off the fuel pressure before beginning. It is high pressure and can hurt you.
- Disconnect the battery to prevent accidental sparks.
- Locate the fuel injectors and identify the fuel lines connected to them.
- Use the fuel line disconnect tool to remove the fuel lines from the old fuel injectors.
- Use the socket set to remove the bolts or screws that hold the old fuel injectors in place.
- Carefully pull the old fuel injectors out of the engine and set them aside.
Here is a typical fuel injector:
- Remove the O-ring and manifold spacer. The manifold spacer must go on before the O-ring.

- Remove the pintle cap. You may need some force to get it off. They get baked on over time.

- Remove the micro filter.

- Get a screw that fits inside the filter, so that you can screw the injector onto the screw, then wiggle the injector back and forth, pulling at the same time.

- Replace your injector. Put a drop of oil on the O-ring so it will slide in easily.
