TECHNICAL:
  • Picture illustrates parts included in this kit.
  • Compare the illustrated measurements with the illustration.
This kit will work on the Edelbrock & 9000 series AFB carburetors.

First lets install the rod to piston retainer spring.
Slip the big end of the spring over the top of the piston.
The open end with the indent will be at the top over the piston hole.
Place the metering rod smaller hook end over the indent of the spring and pull down to the hole and push the rod into the hole.
Now the metering rod will be over the indent in the spring and the rest of the spring will be wrapped around the piston.
Next we will insert the step up spring into the piston. The set of springs comes in 5 sizes,
Blue is 3HG, Yellow is 4HG, Orange is 5hg, pink is 7hg and silver is 8hg.
In this case i will start with the yellow which was in this carburetor.
If in doubt what to start with, start with the orange.
Insert the metering rod piston assembly into the well.
Notice how the spring is holding up the piston. At idle the piston will be pulled down compressing the spring.
As the RPM increases, the vacuum will go down allowing the piston to raise up, pulling the metering rod out of the main jet and allowing more fuel to pass.
Now put the cover over the metering rod and screw it down.
You can experiment with the different colored springs. Watch for anything noticible when going from idle to part throttle. Maybe a stumble. If you sense a problem try another color spring.
                                No Return On Open Kits
