Technical

Carter TQ choke conversion. Converts the hot air choke to an electric choke. The choke housing must be installed.

SPECS:

Looking at coil = rotates clockwise when heated (choke opens / lean)
Choke shaft = rotates counter-clockwise to close (choke closes / rich)

Due to technical reasons, electric choke kits are matched using the engine application. It is assumed that the carburetor, intake manifold and engine are original to the vehicle.

Examples of miss match:

Carburetor has been switched out.

The carburetor has been re-manufactured.

A performance intake manifold has been installed. This is OK if the manifold is a direct replacement.

Spacers have been added to the carburetor base - Divorced chokes only.

Installed one of these on my sons 318 w/thermoquad easy to install (had to make a spacer due to the taller spacer under the carb.) works perfect . if you have a TQ buy one you will love it . Thank you Mikes ...

Q: I have a TQ that I want to convert to an electric choke as the new intake manifold, Weiand Action Plus, does not have a place for the original choke to drop into the manifold runner. Will this choke kit fit my TQ with the Weiand intake?

A: I can't say for sure, you would have to try to compare the photo to determine if you think it will work. Our conversion kits are all based on original carb/manifold set ups. If you've changed the manifold I have no way of knowing that it will work.

Q: Will this work on a Carter YFA on a 1978 ford 300. It has the hot air choke but the tube is rusted off. Would this be a good replacment? Thanks,

A: This is for a divorced choke. The one you need should be CU1112

Q: What are the numbers in parenthesis referring to in the application list? I have a 1979 Dodge Motorhome with a 440 - California. Thermoquad number is 9248S.
